Trying to make your car look cooler than it is can be lame. Just look at that guy down the block with the silver plastic hubcaps that spin, only piece of one broke off so now it just kind of hangs there. This is different. You plug the SoundRacer into your car's cigarette lighter, and set up the FM transmitter frequency. Then, as you step on the gas, it replicates the noise that a high-end sports car would make given the same amount of gas. It's the high-tech equivalent of sitting in the driver's seat and saying, "Vroom, vroom!" When you get sick of the car noise, and you almost certainly will, you can use it to play music from your MP3 player. $40.

Your car's tape deck has officially made the transition from retro to sad, but the latest addition to Sony's prolific Xplod line can fix that for relatively little dough. This deck has both an Aux and a USB port on the front, so it'll play nice with your iPod and just about any other MP3 player with a headphone jack. It will even yank music off of a USB stick. It's compatible with HD radio and uses the RDS system, which means certain FM stations will transmit information about the crappy songs they play. $160

If you're still rocking the tape adapter to get your iPod's music into your car speakers, it's time to upgrade. The iTrip Nano has the same form factor as the iPod with which it shares its name. Plug it in and it broadcasts your tunes via FM radio waves to your car stereo. For the full radio effect, you should pause it and pretend you're a scuzzy FM DJ between songs. Just be careful if you live in an area with a ton of strong FM stations, since that might give your reception a spinning piledriver that results in static-filled car rides.
